For prospective Practice Leaders
Build and lead a BECOME® Practice within BECOME Alliance.
BECOME Alliance is built around a new organisational model for the twenty-first century: the Dynamic Neural Network. In this model, BECOME Alliance thinks and operates as one company, but instead of employing staff, it “employs” entrepreneurs and their businesses.
Entrepreneurs participate through their own legal entities while working within one shared organisation. Together, they develop BECOME Alliance, represent it in the market and contribute to its revenue, profit and long-term value.
The model
Your business. A Practice within one Alliance.
You own your business. You build and lead a BECOME® Practice within BECOME Alliance.
These are distinct. Your business is the legal entity through which you participate in the Alliance. Your BECOME® Practice is the organisational unit within the Alliance that you develop and lead. The Practice is not a separate legal entity or an independently contracting consultancy.
You manage your business, take responsibility for its income and costs, and can employ your own team. Within BECOME Alliance, you and that team form a BECOME® Practice. Everyone in the Practice represents the Alliance and works within its shared identity, strategy, architectural approach and professional standards.
Your Practice can begin with you individually and grow into a team of BECOME® Practitioners and support staff. Those employees are employed by your own legal entity. In their client-facing work, they act as members of your BECOME® Practice and represent the relevant BECOME Alliance entity within their agreed authority.
Your entrepreneurial responsibility is concrete: you create business opportunities, develop client relationships, build your team and manage your resources. Your commitment to the Alliance is equally concrete: all client work runs through BECOME Alliance, and your Practice contributes to the development of the same enterprise.
Your financial participation reflects that contribution. Your business receives a substantial percentage of the revenue generated through your Practice. You also participate in an annual profit-related bonus scheme and can build a potential ownership position through share options.
Owned by the Practice Leader · employs your team · receives your participation income
An organisational unit inside Alliance; you and your team represent Alliance. Not a separate legal entity.
The relevant Alliance entity contracts with clients, invoices and collects payment.
A Practice Leader is the entrepreneur who builds and leads a BECOME® Practice. A Practice Leader can also be a BECOME® Practitioner.
The work
An established foundation for client work.
You begin with a commercial foundation that can take years to build independently. Starting a consultancy means developing your services, organising your business and establishing the reputation needed to win substantial assignments at premium fees. This can be particularly demanding when you have considerable professional expertise but limited entrepreneurial experience.
BECOME Alliance brings fifteen years of client experience and an established reputation, with testimonials from leaders at organisations including Apple Benelux, Unilever and Bayer Consumer Care. You enter the market with an existing proposition, professional resources and support in both delivering client work and building your business.
The foundation extends from research to practical implementation. BECOME® was developed by Eric Bartels, scientist, author and serial entrepreneur, who pioneered online retail with Shopnet in 1988. More than twenty-five years of research and his published books underpin the BECOME® Ontology, BECOME® Framework and BECOME® Program. Together, they explain how enterprises function, provide a structure for improving their business logic and architecture, and guide the implementation of those improvements.
A BECOME® Practitioner is our name for a consultant trained to apply the BECOME® approach. Your role is to activate the intelligence, knowledge and capabilities already present within a client’s enterprise. You conduct structured workshops, support the work between sessions, guide organisational change and provide personal leadership support. You can remain involved in the years following the Program.
This work addresses recurring business problems at their structural source: the enterprise’s business logic and architecture. The purpose is to change the conditions that keep producing those problems. The BECOME® Ontology, Framework and Program provide the common foundation for that work.
All client work runs through BECOME Alliance. Practice Leaders, their participating businesses and their Practice teams may not undertake client assignments outside the Alliance. This applies to exploratory work, Programs, ongoing support and approved specialist services. Separate client contracts and invoicing outside BECOME Alliance are not permitted.
You and your team communicate with clients, prepare proposals, deliver services and, within your agreed authority, enter into client agreements on behalf of BECOME Alliance.
Clients contract with BECOME Alliance B.V. when your Practice operates in the Netherlands, or with the relevant BECOME Alliance subsidiary when it operates in another country. Those BECOME Alliance entities manage client agreements, invoicing and collection. Invoicing and collection are handled through the Alliance’s shared central system.
Financial participation
Three components of participation.
Your financial participation has three components:
A substantial percentage of the revenue generated through your Practice.
Your business receives an agreed share of the revenue your Practice generates for BECOME Alliance, settled per paid client invoice. Our fees reflect fifteen years of reputation, experience with major clients and an extensive research foundation. These support a level of pricing that can take an independent consultancy years to establish. As a result, even after sharing the revenue with BECOME Alliance, your business can earn substantially more for comparable work than you could earn when starting a consultancy entirely on your own. From this income, you remunerate yourself, employ your team and cover your business costs.
An annual profit-related bonus.
A substantial percentage of BECOME Alliance’s annual profit forms a Practice Leader bonus pool. Your allocation is based on the revenue generated through your Practice relative to total Alliance revenue, under the agreed bonus scheme.
Share options that can grow with your contribution.
After your first year of revenue-generating participation, you receive share options under the agreed participation scheme. Your allocation can increase as you contribute to the Alliance’s growth. You may also choose to receive part or all of your annual bonus as additional options.
An option gives you the right to acquire shares at an agreed price, subject to the scheme’s conditions. It creates a route to becoming a shareholder in the company you help build.
The opportunity extends beyond earning an income from your own assignments. If BECOME Alliance grows substantially in value, shares acquired through your options could create an opportunity to build significant personal wealth alongside the income earned through your Practice.
Our ambition is to take BECOME Alliance public within five to ten years. A future listing could provide an opportunity to sell shares and realise that value, subject to the participation terms and applicable trading restrictions. Neither a listing nor a financial return is guaranteed.
The revenue percentages, bonus arrangements and option terms are discussed personally before you join. Your earnings depend on the business you generate, your costs and the applicable participation conditions.
Support
Build with support and shared resources.
You receive support in delivering client work and building your business. This includes training, materials, tools, proposal support and assistance with Program delivery from Eric Bartels and other experienced colleagues. We also provide administrative, accounting and tax support, and help you establish and expand your team. We can consider investing in the growth of a proven Practice under a separate agreement.
Our model includes shared offices in each country as the Alliance expands, providing workspaces, regular opportunities to meet colleagues and facilities for receiving clients. Meeting-room use is charged separately. Practices share knowledge and can find and engage colleagues across the Alliance with relevant expertise for client assignments.
Explore
A defined first assignment.
Your clients can begin with a clearly defined Explore assignment. The client journey follows Explore, Prepare and Implement. During Explore, a BECOME® Practitioner reviews the enterprise’s current situation, questions and ambitions through the BECOME® architectural approach. The work is billed by the hour, with its scope, estimated hours and budget agreed in advance. The client receives a written report documenting the assessment, findings and recommended next steps, including whether a BECOME® Program is appropriate. This gives the client a useful basis for decisions, whether or not they choose to proceed with a Program.
BECOME Alliance sets the applicable hourly rates centrally. Practices do not set their own fees. Once a Program is commissioned, its preparation and delivery fall within its agreed scope and pricing. Hourly work must follow the BECOME® approach and cannot become a separate general consultancy offering.
Standards
One approach and shared standards.
Practice Leaders can propose new services, subject to approval by BECOME Alliance. Every proposed service must complement our architectural approach and support the improvement or implementation of the client’s business logic and architecture. It must not replace, bypass or dilute the BECOME® approach, or turn our work into disconnected treatments of individual symptoms.
AI, technology implementation and other specialist services can be added where they meet these requirements. Approval is required before a Practice offers a new service to clients. Approved services remain subject to the Alliance’s agreements, pricing and quality standards.
Integrity, openness and transparency are essential to participation in BECOME Alliance. Practice Leaders and their teams are expected to give honest advice, communicate clearly about costs and responsibilities, protect confidential information and disclose conflicts of interest. Respect and tolerance apply to everyone we work with, including people with different backgrounds, perspectives and convictions.
Becoming a Practice Leader begins with a conversation about your experience, ambitions and suitability for this way of working. We explain the responsibilities, support and financial arrangements so that both sides can make an informed decision.
